Charles Irmiter Obituary

GREEN - Charles E. Irmiter, who carved out time from a career in finance for substantial community involvement, died suddenly on Saturday, May 24. He was 55.

Born in Little Falls, N.Y., he moved to Michigan as a child. He was a graduate of Alma College, in Alma, Mich., with a degree in business administration.

He was senior finance manager for Mars Inc., Hackettstown, having spent 17 years with the company at various locations. He recently joined The Seeing Eye in Morristown as chief financial officer, after three years in that same position for the League of American Orchestras in Manhattan.

Throughout his life, he pursued his love of music. He was a percussionist with the New Sussex Symphony, where he also served on the board of directors for many years. His taste ranged from classical to bluegrass. He met his wife Deborah, also a musician, at Alma College, where both played in the band.

While living in the Midwest, he spent years as a pilot in the Civil Air Patrol and as a volunteer firefighter and EMT.

The father of three, he was a Cub master in Tranquility and an assistant coach for youth hockey in Morris County. He and his wife also adopted three retired greyhounds.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah D.; a daughter and son-in-law, Laine E., and Daniel C. Chidester, of Downingtown, Pa., sons David C., of Hopewell, and John P., at home; also his mother, Doris Linerode Irmiter, Kent, OH; and a sister, Susan I. Barger, Columbus, OH. He is also survived by three nieces and one nephew.

A funeral will be held Thursday, May 29, at 10:30 a.m., at Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, 156 Main St., Newton. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 28, 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to either; The Seeing Eye www.seeingeye.org, Morristown, or The New Sussex Symphony's Legacy Fund [email protected], Newton.
