Harold Amato Obituary

Harold R. Amato 1917-2008 NORTH ADAMS Harold R. Amato, age 91, formerly of East Main Street, North Adams died Friday, August 22, 2008 at the Presbyterian Home in Hollidaysburg, Pa. Born on June 21, 1917 in North Adams, son of Frank J. and Eva Elliman Amato, he was a 1935 graduate of Drury High School in North Adams. On January 19, 1946 he married Dorothy Stockwell. She died in August 2002. Mr. Amato retired from the U.S. Postal Service as postmaster of Williamstown after 40 years of service. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in North Adams where he was a former Senior Warden and Treasurer and Lafayette-Greylock A.F. & A.M.Masonic Lodge where he had served as Master and District Deputy from 1972-1973. In 1997, he was awarded the Joseph Warren Award from the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts. He also enjoyed reading and traveling and was an active member of the National Association of Federal Retired Employees. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by three brothers, Frank, Rob, and Milton. He leaves a son, Brian Amato and his wife, Mary, of Hollidaysburg, Pa.; two granddaughters, Amy E. Klonsky and her husband, Ralph, of Springfield, Va. and Barbara Amato of Duncansville, Pa.; a great-granddaughter, Isabella Elizabeth Klonsky; and several nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 28 at St. John's Episcopal Church, 59 Summer Street, North Adams. Rev Edward King will officiate. Burial will be Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 27 at Paciorek Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac Street, Adams. Memorial donations may be made to either St. John's Episcopal Church or Lafayette-Greylock A.F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge.

Harold used to let my father and I use his boat he had at Rowe pond for many summers. Caught a lot of nice bass because of that. He worked with my father at the post office in north adams. His personality and demeanor were similiar to my dads' My sympathy goes out to his family.
