Walter Pietras Obituary

Walter P. Pietras 1912-2008 ADAMS Walter P. Pietras, 96, of 5 Gilead St., died Monday morning, Aug. 25 at the North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Adams on Feb. 25, 1912, son of Peter and Sophie Greenbush Pietras, he attended St. Stanislaus School and the former Adams High School. Mr. Pietras worked for many years for the family owned business, Pietras' Market on Summer St. In Adams until it closed in the late 1950s. He then went to work for the former Adams Supermarkets in Adams as a meat cutter, retiring in 1980. He was a communicant of the parish of Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs and St. Thomas Aquinas in Adams. An avid sports fan, he was a New England Patriot and Boston Red Sox fan and was involved with the first developments of the Adams Little League program. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing the lottery and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His wife, the former Antoinette Moreau, whom he married on September 2, 1940, died March 27, 2007. He leaves one son, Ronald Pietras and his wife, Rosamond, of Adams; one brother, Frederick Pietras and his wife, Josephine, of Adams; one sister, Helen O'Donnell, of Adams; Three grandchildren, Kyle Pietras and his wife, Christine, of Steamboat Springs, Co., Seth Pietras of Washington D.C., and Dr. Colleen Pietras of Waterbury, Conn.; two great- grandchildren, Rafaella Pietras and Norah Pietras; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one sister, Stephanie Ciolkowski. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Walter P. Pietras will take place Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 10 a.m. in Notre Dame Church in Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams. The are no calling hours. Donations in his memory can be made to the Adams Ambulance or Elder Services through the TROTTIER PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St., Adams who is in charge of arrangements.
