Forist A. McLain Jr. 1928 - 2008 NORTH ADAMS Forist A. McLain Jr., 79, of 546 Union St. died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at the Sweetbrook Health Care Center in Williamstown. Born in Williamstown on Nov. 18, 1928, son of Forist McLain Sr. and Edna Sweet McLain, he attended schools in Clarksburg, and graduated from Drury High School. He also attended the former Bliss Business College. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army and was decorated Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal . Mr. McLain was employed at the former Sprague Electric Co. He was the owner and operator of S&M Sheet Metal in Clarksburg. He then worked at Ashley Swift and Sons Heating and Plumbing Co. He was last employed at North Adams Sheet Metal. He was a member of the Stamford, Vt. Community Church. A civic leader in the town of Clarksburg, he served as Selectman for over 25 years and was a longtime member of the School Committee. He was a founding member of the Clarksburg Council on Aging, a member of the Clarksburg VFW and Lions Club, and a member of the Greylock Lodge of Masons in North Adams. He leaves his wife, Alice Stewart McLain, whom he married April 30, 1949, in Bennington, Vt.; a daughter, Lois Bergmans and her husband, Henricus, of Veazie, Maine; three sons, Steven McLain and his wife, Monica, Forist McLain III and his wife, Kathleen, and Douglas McLain and his wife, Nina, all of North Adams; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Allen McLain of Clarksburg and a sister, Jacqueline Quirk of Clarksburg. He was predeceased by two daughters, Donna Saunders and Joan Russell. FUNERAL NOTICE: Services will take place Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Stamford Community Church in Stamford, Vt. Burial with military honors will follow in Clarksburg Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for North Adams Adult Day Care Center or the Western Massachusetts Alzheimer's Assoc through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME for FUNERALS, WEST CHAPELs, 521 West Main St. North Adams.
