Ernest Potvin 1931-2008Lucia Potvin 1937-2008 NORTH ADAMS Ernest F. Potvin, 77, of East Quincy Street died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at Metro West Medical Center in Natick, following a long illness. Born in Chicopee on April 10, 1931, son of Ernest J. and Rosalie Landry Potvin, he was a 1949 graduate of Drury High School. During the Korean War, he served in the Army as a radioman, rising to the rank of sergeant. He worked construction on the Yankee Atomic Project and was a co-founder of the Potvin Lumber with his brother, Robert. For over 35 years, he worked as a machinist at the former Sprague Electric. He was a communicant of Notre Dame Church and was an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Church. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family. On June 17, 1967, he married the former Lucia Di Lorenzo, who died Monday, Nov. 3. They enjoyed 41 years of marriage. He leaves two sons, Stephen Potvin of North Adams and Andrew Potvin of Toronto, Canada; a grandson, Thomas Potvin of North Grafton; two brothers, Robert Potvin of Stamford, Vt., and Philip Potvin of Colorado, and many nieces and nephews. Lucia Potvin, 71, of East Quincy Street died Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at Sweet Brook Transitional Care and Living Center in Williamstown, following a long illness. Born on Feb. 2, 1937, daughter of Andrew and Nancy Fumento Di Lorenzo, she was a 1955 graduate of Drury High School and the former Bliss Business School. In earlier years, she worked as a bookkeeper. She retired from The Williams College Alumni Office. She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Her favorite past-times included cooking, baking, playing cards and bridge. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family. Her husband, Ernest, died Nov. 1, 2008. Besides their sons and grandson, she leaves a sister, Barbara Crawford of North Adams and her children, Ray, Andrew, and Debra; Aunts Phyllis and Vita, Uncle Rocco and his wife, Toby; her sister-in-law, Elda Di Lorenzo, and her children, Mary, Richard, and Andrea, and many grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Richard Di Lorenzo of Burlington, Vt. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Mass of Christian Burial for Ernest and Lucia Potvin will be Saturday, Nov. 8, at 9 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church. The Rite of Committal will follow in Southview Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, followed by calling hours from 4 to 7 at the AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 46 North Church St. Memorial donations may be made to Toys for Tots, c/o Coordinator, Machine Gun Platoon, 18 Bn. 160 Airman Drive, Building 5550, Chicopee, MA 01022 , or the North Adams VFW Post 996, P.O. Box 1680, North Adams, MA 01247 in care of the funeral home.
