Ilean Baxter Obituary

Blackshear, GA

Mrs. Ilean Dixon Baxter, passed away Monday afternoon, March 31, 2008, her 78th birthday, at the Pierce County Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.

A native of Pierce County, she had lived in many places with her late husband, Henry Stephen Baxter, Jr., who served in the US Air Force. They moved back to Pierce County in the 60’s. Mrs. Baxter was a homemaker and was also a member of the Wards Memorial Methodist Church. She was a daughter of the late J. Frank & Sallie Roberson Dixon and in addition to her husband, was also preceded in death by a sister, Winlen Walker; and three brothers, Bronzall Dixon, Ronnie Dixon and Darthell Dixon.

Survivors are three daughters, Cheryl Baxter Thigpen of Valdosta and Nancy Baxter Arrington and Carole Baxter (Michael) Dowling all of Blackshear; two sisters, Deasy (Gene) Mattox and Eula Dell “Tootsie” Pearson all of Blackshear; a brother, E. C. “Shorty” (Bea) Dixon of Waycross; 9 grandchildren, Brian Parrish, Liz Thigpen (Chad) Murray, Johnny (Rebecca) Thigpen, Marsha Herrin, Doug Herrin, Jonathan (Judi) Williams, Tony Baxter, Charlie Sutton and Katie Dowling; 2 great grandchildren, Madelyne Murray and Jasmin Williams, and several nieces, nephews & other relatives.

Funeral services for Mrs. Baxter will be held Thursday afternoon, April 3, 2008, at 2:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.

Interment will be in the Blackshear Cemetery.

Visitation for Mrs. Baxter will be held Wednesday evening from 7 until 9 at the funeral home.
