CLEOPHA “CLEO” THOM
Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Cleopha “Cleo” Thom, age 85, of Glencoe was held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe. Officiating was Fr. Anthony Stubeda. The organist was Sister Elizabeth Gruenes. The Song Leader was Irene Makovsky. The soloist was Justin Rierson who sang “Ava Maria.” The hymns included “Amazing Grace,” “On Eagle’s Wings” and “Here I Am Lord.” Serving as casket bearers were Nicholas Eischens, Chad Fix, Eric Bentz, Cody Thom, Dale Stuewe and Doug Ebert. Honorary casket bearers were Taylor Bentz and Christoph Thom. Visitation was held Tuesday evening at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Cleopha “Cleo” Thom was born November 11, 1923 the daughter of Henry and Anna (Schneider) Mohrbacher in Cologne. She was baptized on November 18, 1923, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Cologne and later confirmed there as well. She attended St. Bernard’s Catholic School and later graduated from Central High School. Cleo was united in marriage with Walter Thom on March 19, 1949 at the Janesville, Minnesota Luther Parish by Rev. Koehler. The couple made their home in Glencoe and they were blessed with 7 daughters and 4 sons. Cleo worked for Telex, Super Valu, Green Giant and the Pla-Mor Ballroom. She was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and also a member of the Council of Catholic Women. Cleo enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, crafting, sewing, playing cards, spending time with family and friends.
On Sunday, July 19, 2009, Cleo entered her eternal rest at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 8 days. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughters Michelle Thom, Ingrid Fix; son-in-law Tom Rhyner; sister Adelaide Schneider; brothers Clarence Mohrbacher, Louis Mohrbacher, Gregor Mohrbacher, Wally Mohrbacher and Milo Mohrbacher.
Cleo is survived by special friend: Clifford Kohls of Cedar Mills, MN; children: Tanya Thom of Plymouth, Richard Thom (Mary Kaye) of Jordan, Karene Stuewe (Dale) of Hamburg, Lori Rhyner of Franklin, WI, Karla Eischens (special friend: Dan Larson) of Glencoe, JaNaye Ebert (Doug) of Alexandria, Gary Thom of Maple Grove, Jeffrey Thom (Lisa) of Maple Grove, David Thom; 19 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sister: Sally Eiden of Chaska; sisters-in-law: Ruth Yaeger of Mankato, Elaine Mohrbacher of Chaska; as well as other relatives and friends.
