Doris Henderson Obituary

KINSTON - Doris Louise Bradshaw Henderson passed away Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Lenoir Memorial Hospital at the age of 84. A native of Lenoir County, she was born on May 29, 1925 to the late Ada and Ashley Bradshaw. Doris was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Survivors include Roger Lee Henderson, her husband of 59 years; daughters Donna Henderson Gray and husband, Rodney of Wilson and Becky Hender-son Whittington and husband, Wynn of Kinston; grandchildren Joseph Lee Ervin, Jason Neal Ervin, Jordan Henderson Ervin, and Lauren Henderson Gray, all of Raleigh. Other survivors include sisters Hazel Sult, Eleanor Baker, and Mary Alice Beaman, all of Kinston and Martha Haab of Cobbs Creek, Virginia; brothers, Herbert Bradshaw and wife, Leatrice of La Grange and James Bradshaw and wife, Lew of Kinston; sisters-in-law, Nannie Mae Howard of Deep Run and Mary Alma Clement and husband, Carol of St. George, Utah; brothers-in-law Manley Hender-son and wife, Vera of Portsmouth, Va. and Bobby Henderson and wife, Janet of Union, Mis-souri. She was 'Aunt Doris' to many special nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her in-laws, Clen and Fleta Henderson and brothers, Robert Brad-shaw and Cecil Bradshaw. Doris was a homemaker and until her declining health prevented it, she was an active member of Northwest Christian Church where she sang in the choir. She was also an avid and competitive bridge player. The family will receive friends Monday, September 21, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home in Kinston and other times at the home, 2701 Sheryl Drive. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Northwest Christian Church with Rev. James Kent and Rev. Dexter Wasson officiating.
