Funeral services celebrating the life of Marlene Mackenthun, age 74 of Norwood Young America were held at 11:00 AM Tuesday December 8, 2009 at the All Saints Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America. Officiating was the Rev. Eric Aune. The pianist was Jane Fasching. The music selections included “Amazing Grace”, “I Know That My Redeemer Lives”, “Jesus Loves Me” and “Joy To The World”. Serving as casket bearers were grandchildren Christopher Trowbridge, Brittany Trowbridge, Kelly Kroells, Lindsey Street, Andy Franck, Emily Franck, Katie Franck, Angela Mackenthun and Afton Mackenthun. The honorary casket bearers were grandchildren Frankie Mackenthun, John Henry Mackenthun, Josie Mackenthun and Wyatt Mackenthun. Interment was in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation was held Monday evening at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Norwood Young America.
Marlene Delores Pugh was born the daughter of Frances and Eileen (Costello) Pugh on May 17, 1935 in Minneapolis. As a young child, Marlene’s mother married Clarence Gaedy, and Marlene was adopted by Clarence shortly after. Marlene was baptized on May 12, 1948 at the United Methodist Church in Norwood. Marlene attended Central High School. On June 28, 1952 Marlene was united in marriage with John Louis Mackenthun at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Young America by Rev. Kramer. She was confirmed in the faith on February 25, 1954 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Marlene had done clerical and office work for Dr. Selmo in Norwood. She also worked alongside her husband, John, at Mackenthun Meats when needed. Marlene enjoyed crafting, spending time at the cabin, and being with her girlfriends. She was a lover of cats. Marlene cherished the time spent with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On Thursday December 3, 2009 Marlene Mackenthun entered her eternal rest at the Auburn Manor in Chaska at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 16 days. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and grandson, Matthew Franck.
Marlene is survived by her children, Wynne Trowbridge (Jeff) of Charlton, NY, Jill Street (Bryan) of Norwood Young America, Jennifer Franck (Richard) of Norwood Young America, John “Butch” Mackenthun (Sue) of Norwood Young America, Jeffrey Mackenthun (Becki) of Vadnais Heights; grandchildren, Christopher Trowbridge, Brittany Trowbridge, Kelly Kroells (Joel), Lindsey Street, Andy Franck (Stephanie), Emily Franck, Katie Franck, Angela Mackenthun, Afton Mackenthun, Frankie Mackenthun, John Henry Mackenthun, Josie Mackenthun, Wyatt Mackenthun; great grandchildren, Matthew and Rylan Franck, Madison Franck and Dylan Lofgren, Devan Mackenthun; sister Kathleen Swedell; brother Thomas Gaedy; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Cordelia Zaske, Delores Holtz, Betty Mead, Ada Mackenthun, Gladys Peterson, Art and Janet Mackenthun, Martha Mackenthun; as well as her “Special High School Gals”, other relatives and many friends.
