Funeral services celebrating the life of Margaret Proehl, age 90, of Glencoe were held Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe. Officiating was Rev. James Gomez. Serving as casket bearers were Paul Lemke, David Proehl, Tim Proehl, Brad Bartz, Bill Puffe and Kevin Schramm. Honorary casket bearers were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Interment followed in the Glencoe City Cemetery.
Margaret Cecila Bartz was born on July 12, 1919 the daughter of William and Emma (Polley) Bartz in McIntosh, Minnesota. She was baptized on July 27, 1919 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in McIntosh by Rev. Paul Seltz and later confirmed on July 30, 1933 also at Emmanuel by Rev. C. F. Knauft. On June 2, 1940 Margaret was united in marriage to Raymond Proehl at St. Johnís Lutheran Church in Helen Township. The couple was blessed with four children Ruth, Leslie, Marvin and Dale. Margaret was a housewife, taking care of her family. She did tailoring at her home and for the Temple Clothing Store for over 20 years and was a seamstress sewing beautiful dresses. She also worked for Green Giant for many summers and worked at the Glencoe Hospital for 5 years in housekeeping. After retirement Margaret volunteered making school bags, snow pants, knitting stocking caps and mittens for the needy children. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and was a charter member of the Ladies Guild. Margaret loved canning, baking, especially bread, coffee cakes and cinnamon rolls. The grandchildren always looked forward to this on Saturday. On Friday, May 21, 2010 Margaret went to the Lord peacefully at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 9 days at the St. Maryís Care Center in Winsted. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Emma Bartz; husband Ray; son Dale; father and mother-in-law Henry & Anna Proehl; siblings Henry Bartz (Orvilla), Edwin Bartz (Ella), Esther Swanson (Julian), Helen Proehl (Harley), Raymond Bartz (Alice), Dorothy Fjirstad (Oliver), Wilma Svein; brothers and sisters-in-law Betty Bartz, Rosella Proehl, Harry Proehl, Wilmer Proehl, Harold Schramm.
Margaret is survived by her children Ruth (Lemke) Templin of Glencoe, Leslie Proehl (Ann) of Orange Park, FL, Marvin Proehl (Karen) of Emmett, ID; grandchildren Sara Dammann (Brian), Paul Lemke (Amy), David Proehl (Allison), Julie White, Michelle Rencarge (Steve), Theresanne Vickery (Jerry), Brian Proehl, Keith Proehl, Melanie Hass (John); great grandchildren Ashley, Rebecca, Jackson, Katelyn, Colton, Zachary, Emily, Colyn, Jenna, Austin, Angela, Makayla, Griffin, Dalen; 9 step great grandchildren; siblings Jeanne (Lyle) Puffe, Harold Bartz (Bev), Clifford Bartz; brothers and sisters-in-law Violet Schramm, Norris Svein; special friend Sister Mary Ellen of St. Maryís; as well as cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
