William R. "Wild Bill" Thompson, a retired Town of New Windsor Police Officer, passed away on Saturday July 23, 2005, at home. He was 61.
Son of the late Duncan and Helen Olsen Thompson, he was born April 24, 1944 in Newburgh, N.Y.
He married Angela Crudele Thompson on May 7, 1989 in Newburgh, who survives at home.
William enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1967 after proudly serving four years. He was a member of the Orange County Peace Officers Association, Disabled American Veterans, New Windsor PBA, and the American Legion Post #4424.
William also enjoyed working as a salesman at Morehead Honda, at West Point Tours and Argenio Brothers Construction.
A family statement reads: "Billy was one of a kind. Everyone that knew him loved him and he returned that love. Angela wants his family, police family, and friends to know that they were very important to him and how much he loved them. Shadow is welcoming his Daddy with open paws. He loved his wife Angela very much."
In addition to his loving wife, Angela, William is also survived by his two sons, Charles Thompson and his wife, Amy, and Scott Thompson of the Town of Newburgh; his daughter, Andrea Thompson of New Windsor; his brother, Charles Thompson of the Town of Newburgh; his sister, Patty Smith of the Town of Newburgh; his step-mother, Genevive Thompson of New Windsor; his mother-in-law, Anna Crudele; sister-in-law, Linda Riccio and her husband, Joe, of Saugerties; brother-in-law, John Crudele and his wife, Lizette, of New City, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his brother, Duncan Thompson in 1956, and his sister-in-law, Donna Thompson in 2004.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Tuesday, July 26 at the Brooks-DiDonato Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh.
A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, July 27 at 10:00 AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor, with Military and Police Honors.
