Cpl. James E. Summers

Corporal James E Summers III was born on April 5th 1986. He attended Bourbon High School in Bourbon, MO and graduated in 2004. Upon graduation, Jimmy moved to Cuba MO before deciding to join the military. Jimmy entered the United States Army on February 16th 2005 and attended Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) as a 19D (Cavalry Scout) at Fort Knox, Kentucky. While attending AIT, CPL Summers qualified as an expert rifleman. Upon Completion of One Station Unit Training, CPL Summers was assigned to A Troop, 6-9 Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team in Fort Hood, Texas where he served as a Dismounted Scout and a HUMVEE Gunner. CPL Summers deployed as part of A Troop, 6-9 Cavalry Regiment on October 4th 2006 in Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 06/08. CPL Summers was killed in action on May 28th 2007 while still serving in Iraq.

Corporal Summers' awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, three Army Commendation Medals, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbons, and the Combat Action Badge.
