John Robert Appleton Sr., 86, died Friday, July 13, 2012, at his home in Minor Hill, Tennessee.
He was born in Giles County, Tennessee, on March 29, 1926. He was the owner of Appleton's Tavern and a farmer. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. His parents were the late Thomas Columbus and Bessie Shelton Appleton. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and York & Scottish Rite. He was preceded in death by wife, Mary Bryce Brown Appleton; son, Roger Ed Appleton; brothers, Ralph and David Appleton; sisters, Margaret and Katherine Bailey, Mary Anna Appleton and Jeanine Pumphrey.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, July 22, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Giles Memory Gardens in Pulaski, Tennessee with Brother Mike Kelly of Savannah officiating.
Survivors include son, John Appleton Jr. and wife, Stacia, of Athens; sister-in-law, Betty Jo Appleton of Waynesboro, Tenn.; sisters, Wildean Kelly of Rogersville, Rebecca Sandusky of Lakeland Fla., Ruth Tannehill of Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Erica and Jonathan, special granddaughter and caregiver, Michelle Daugherty and husband, Roy, of Minor Hill, Tenn.; several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Scottish Rite Temple, Dyslexia Program, 314 Bob Wallce Avenue SW, Huntsville, AL 35801 in memory of John Robert Appleton Sr.
