Bernice Johnson Anderson
Bernice Johnson Anderson, 89, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at the Colonnades in Charlottesville, Virginia. Mrs. Anderson was born on April 27, 1923, in Rhode Island, the daughter of the late Harold and Eleanor (Payette) Johnson.
She received a business degree from Bryant College. Bernice was a devoted wife, dedicated mother, a fantastic cook and homemaker. Bernice enjoyed playing golf and bridge with her many friends and was an active member in her church. She brought joy to so many throughout her life and she remained cheerful and strong during her twilight years at the Colonnades. On June 3, 1949, she married Kenneth John Anderson and was very honored to serve as a military wife. He preceded her in death on March 9, 2007.
Bernice is survived by a son, Eric J. Anderson and his wife, Angie, of Switzerland, Florida; a daughter, Karen and her husband, William G.K. Merrill, of Afton, Virginia; and two grandsons whom she adored, Alexander Merrill and Gadsden Merrill. A memorial service will take place 4 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at St. David's Anglican Church in Charlottesville.
Burial will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts for church landscaping may be made to St. David's Anglican Church, P.O.
