Doris S. Stephens
Doris Stephens, age 75, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Saturday morning October 27 2012. She moved to California, eventually settling in Santa Maria in 1960 as a young mother and housewife.
She worked for Robert Bruce school as a teachers aid in the 1960's and early 70's. In 1974 she went to work for Marian Hospital in the Medical Records department using the old style Dictaphones and deciphering the doctors handwriting. She dedicated 36 loyal years in her department until her retirement in 2011.
Doris loved painting in watercolors and puttering in her garden. She was well known for sharing her yearly bumper crop of tomatoes and her beautiful fruit trees & plants.
Doris is survived by her 3 children, daughters Patricia (Vern) Turner of Nipomo, Laura Kerr of Santa Maria and son Craig Stephens of Santa Maria. She also boasts of her 4 grandchildren, Christi Stephens of Pendleton Oregon, Jayme Shope of Santa Maria, Matthew Kerr of Santa Maria and Amelia Kerr of Santa Maria. Doris was also blessed with 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Lorraine Duval of Hookset N.H. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her brother Roger Turcotte and her parents Emilien Turcotte and Amelia Turcotte.
A celebration of Doris's life will be held on Wednesday October 31st at 12 noon at the Santa Maria Elks Lodge 1309 N. Bradley Road. Please bring your appetite, and a story to share, lunch will be served.
In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the Marian Cancer Center /Mission of Hope in memory of Doris Stephens.
