Pearl Oxorn Mades
Pearl Oxorn Mades, M.A. Peacefully at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland on Friday November 2, 2012 with family by her side. Beloved wife of Leonard Mades. Loving mother of Kenneth (Sandy), Donald (Sue), Karen and Valerie. Loving grandmother of Michael, Jonathan, Alex, Sean and Alexandra. Survived by her loving brother Philip G. Futterman. Will be remembered fondly by her many nieces and nephews. Pearl will be greatly missed by her family and friends including her community at Riderwood Village and her friends, colleagues and students at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Johns Hopkins University. Pearl taught courses at the Johns Hopkins Krieger School of Arts and Sciences for twenty-nine years since its inception as the Evergreen Society in 1986. Prior to that, she was a published art critic and museum educator in Ottawa, Canada; Washington, D.C.; and Baltimore, Maryland. A scholarship in honor of her many years of dedicated teaching has been created at Osher.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Pearl Oxorn Mades Scholarship Fund at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Johns Hopkins University, Zanvyl Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, 9601 Medical Center Drive, Rockville, MD, 20850. Donations may also be made to the Experimental Education Unit (EEU) at the University of Washington which Pearl's grandson Sean attended for preschool and kindergarten. It is a state of the art inclusion program with a major focus on helping educate children with autism.
