Bernard G. Jarvis
1933 - 2012 CHESHIRE Bernard G. Jarvis, 79, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in Adams on May 8, 1933, son of the late Arsene and Aurella Rolland Jarvis, he attended the former Notre Dame Elementary School in Adams and also Cheshire schools. Mr. Jarvis became a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Lane Construction Co. in Pittsfield for 44 years, retiring in 1994. Mr. Jarvis was an Army Korean War veteran. He enjoyed going to casinos, wood working, carpentry, as he remodeled homes, but most of all loved spending time with his grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
His wife, the former Laura Robinson, whom he married on Nov. 28, 1958, died May 10, 2000.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Nancy Oparowski, two daughters, Cathy Chattelle and her husband, David, of Terryville, CT., Mary Chattelle of Coventry, CT.; three sisters, Eleanor Schaffrick and her husband, Emil, of Cheshire, Alice Jarvis Szaldak and her husband, George, of Summerfield, Fla., Joan Courtemanche and her husband, Gene, of Mashpee; two brothers, Russell Jarvis and his wife, Lucille, of Adams, Donald Jarvis and his wife, Gwen, of Leesburg, Fla.; four grandchildren, Jessica, Aiden, Mathieu, Samual Chattelle, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, David Alan Jarvis, a sister, Dorothy Meunier, and a niece, Anne Schaffrick Bury.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Services for Bernard G. Jarvis will take place Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at 1 p.m. from the TROTTIER PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St., Adams, with the Rev. Donald Gray, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Adams, officiating. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the or the in care of the funeral home.
