Florence Cantin Obituary

1919 - 2013
        Florence B. (Lavoie) Cantin, age 93, wife of the late Albert Cantin, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2013.  A lifelong resident of Fall River, as well as a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend to many.  She was best known for her love of making and sharing home cooked treats with others as well as her friendly, good nature and sweet disposition.   Born in Fall River, MA, a daughter of the late Pierre and the late Albina (Lambert) Lavoie.  She was initially employed by Terminal Bakery in Fall River before spending the remainder of her working years at Bishop Connolly High School as the chief cook for the Jesuit priests who resided there.  She retired in 1981 to spend more time enjoying the company of her friends and family.  She was a resident of Lafayette Place apartments for over 30 years. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Arel and husband Don of Wareham, MA; a son, Paul Cantin of Fall River; a sister, Yvonne Ouelette of Somerset, two brothers, Normand Lavoie of Vero Beach, FL and Wilbert Lavoie of Swansea, MA; brother-in-law- Leo Cantin of Framingham; seven grandchildren, Pauline Cantin, Colleen Triana, Kathleen Martins, Nicole Resendes, Jade Longstaff, Allison Cantin and Paul Cantin; nine great-grandchildren, Abigail & Benjamin Resendes, Danielle & A.J. Martins, Samantha & Gina Triana, Sierra & Braden Longstaff and Maggie Cantin; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Anita Robideau, Germaine Goyette and Rhea Michaud. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013 from 8:00AM to 9:00AM in the BOULE FUNERAL HOME, 615 Broadway, Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. Bernadette's Parish, 529 Eastern Ave., Fall River, MA. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, Memorial Gifts may be mailed to McCarthy Care Center, 73 Service Road, East Sandwich, MA 02537 or on their website at The family wishes to thank the members of Hope Hospice of Hyannis and the McCarthy Center in Sandwich, and her friend & private Care CNA, Terrie Cote, for their help in providing so much comfort to her and her family as well as the exceptional care she received during her final days.
