PURKS, Russell C., age 93, originally of Richmond, Va., passed away Friday, January 4, 2013, in Valrico, Fla., surrounded by his family, caregiver and friends from Life Path Hospice. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Rosner and her husband, Steve; two sisters-in-law, Doris Steinbrecher and Barbara Vass (Joe); and a niece, Cynthia Murphy (Grayson), and their daughter, Megan, all of Virginia; as well as several cousins; and a dear friend and trusted caregiver, Sharon Brown. He was a longtime member of First English Lutheran Church and was very active in the Sunday school programs in his early years. He was married to the "love of his life," Grace Schneider, for 60 years, who preceded him in death in 2001. He was employed for more than 49 years by the Kohler Company starting in 1936 as a plumbing fixture salesman and retired in 1986, having successfully served as a Regional Manager in various parts of the country. He had several hobbies, namely fishing, model trains, golf, and for over 50 years was an avid amateur radio operator, well known in more than 200 countries by his call sign, K4BCN. He proudly served with honors as a 1st Lt. in the U.S. Army during WWII. The family will receive friends in a Celebration of his Life from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., Richmond, Va. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 9, in Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to Life Path Hospice, 3010 W.
