Glenn Connell, age 94, of Monroe passed away peacefully on March 13, 2013. A native of Monroe, NC, Glenn was born on June 2, 1918, son of Isaac and Mamie Crowell Connell. He served in the Navy during WWII and was stationed in Washington, DC, Pearl Harbor, and completed his enlistment at Camp Shelton, VA.
Glenn was a member of Excelsior Lodge No. 261 for 54 years. He was active in every phase of lodge work and gave tirelessly of his time. He served as Master of the Lodge in 1975, and Certified Lecturer of the Grand Lodge of NC. Glenn also held the position of Secretary for 12 years and was a 32 Degree Mason and a member of Oasis Temple.
Glenn enjoyed a long career in automotive parts sales retiring from Fleet Auto and Supply in 1976. He spent his retirement years traveling to his homes in Florida and Franklin, NC, and became an avid golfer. Glenn scored a hole-in-one at Mill Creek Country Club, a story he loved to share, and shot his age at 83. He loved to read and enjoyed working puzzles in his spare time.
Glenn was a past member of Avondale Presbyterian Church in Charlotte and a current member of Calvary Baptist Church in Monroe NC.
In addition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his wife Alma, Brothers: Wendell, Brady, Marvin and Clyde Connell; Sisters: Dorothy Smith and Naomi Jones.
Glenn is survived by his wife Dorothy Connell, Step-children Gwenn (Butch) Gilbert, and Mike (Eve) Price, Step-grandchildren: Dustin and Josh Price and one Step-grandson Colton Price, sister Evelyn Ford, brother Rev. Claude Connell and numerous nieces and nephews.
Glenn will be remembered as a kind, gentle man who was never afraid to express his love for others.
A service to celebrate the life of Glenn Connell will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013 at 2:00 PM with a visitation beginning at 12:30 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC, 28112. Rev. Eddie Price, Rev. Steve Jirgal, and Rev. Claude Connell officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park.
