Richter, George Brownell age 86 of Grand Rapids, MN, died Monday, June 10, 2013 in Grand Rapids. George was born in 1927 to Charles and Mazie Richter in St. Cloud, MN. He grew up and attended schools in St. Cloud. George served in the U.S. Navy from June of 1945 until his discharge in July of 1946. George furthered his education with a BA in Physics from St. John's University in Collegeville, MN, a Master in Physical Science Education in July 1958, and a PhD in Physical Science Education in June 1972. He taught at the University of Minnesota and St. Thomas University in Engineering. George taught at Mechanical Arts which became St. Paul Technical College, where he directed the Adult Technical Education Division. He wrote and published 4 books; 1983 Ubi est Dens (Where is God?), 1998 TEAFS (To Each a Fair Share), 2004 Theology of Physics, and 2006 Techies & Reality. George sang at St. Olaf and Basicllia of St. Mary and Newman Hall (U of M) all in Minneapolis, MN; and Holy Childhood, St. Agnes, the Schola Cantorum, Crochets and Quavers, St. Augustine's in St. Paul, MN. In 1999 he received the "Distinguished Engineer" award from the Minnesota Federation of Engineering Societies for his outstanding achievement in, and service to, the profession of engineering. George's favorite activities included traveling back routes (the roads less traveled), camping under the stars with all available children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Grandmother Grain, and all neighbors. He was famous for teaching his grandchildren to swim. George was proud to have been an Eagle Scout. Preceding him in death were his parents, Mazie and Charles Richter; brother, Ray; sister, Marjorie; daughters, infant Mary Catherine and Elisabeth Gibson; great-granddaughter, Danielle Gibson and his first wife, Patricia Grain Richter. George is survived by his wife, Twila Ryhti and her 3 children Katrina (Matt) Erickson, Robb-Lee (Elizabeth) Lussier and Kyria (Tim) Tarnowski and their children, Joshua, Andrew, Jack and Ella Erickson, Abigal and Cecelia Tarnowski, and Dylan, Azy and Zoe Lussier. He is also survived by his children, Mark (Beth Ann) Richter, Mari (Mike) Baker, Joseph (Barb) Richter, Melodie Anderson and Mike (Beth) Gibson; grandchildren, Craig Baker, Michelle (John) Bradford, Nicole Baker, Jonathon (Becky) Richter, Jacquelyn (Corey) Uhlar, Charles (Kjerstin) Gibson, Adam (Sarah) Gibson, Benjamin Gibson, Katherine (Derek) Hertz, Emily Richter, Brodan Richter, Thomas Richter, Kateri Richter, Gianna Richter, Daniel Richter, Robert (Christina) Hart, Laura (Steven) Sullivan, William Hart, Edward (Mimi) Hart, Melissa Anderson, Jennifer Anderson and Megan Anderson; great-grandchildren: Alexander Richter, Jacob Richter, Simon Richter, Emily Richter, Molly Richter, Henry Richter, Miles Richter, Spencer Richter, Addison Uhlar, Therese Uhlar, Eleanor Gibson, Nathaniel Gibson, Zoey Hart, Patrick Hart, Malika Baker, Kiara Michaud, Marianna Pochman, Dante Owens, Sydney Hertz and Gavin Bradford. Visitation will be Friday, June 14th from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 Mass of Christian Burial, followed by full military honors, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, MN. Rev. Fr. Drew Braun will officiate. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Paul, MN on Monday, June 24th at 10:00 AM, with a visitation one hour prior to the service, at the Church of the Holy Childhood. Rev. Fr.
