Jean Hoisington Obituary

Hoisington, Jean M. age 82, of Shoreview, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2013 at home. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Bob; their children Bob Hoisington Jr. (Debbie), Karen Highness (David), Barbara Hanson (Timothy), Lori Kallestad (Gregg); 21 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, a sister, and nieces and nephews. Jean was born on August 25, 1930 in Minneapolis, the youngest of Pauline and Ernie Meyer's six children. The Meyer family had moved to California for a number of years but moved back to Minneapolis in time for Jean to attend and graduate from Marshall High School with her childhood friends. Her high school yearbook described her as "pretty to walk with and witty to talk with." Jean and Bob both attended Macalester College where she was earning a Kindergarten teaching degree and he earned a math degree. They began their romance when they were both teaching in Windom, Minnesota, and continued through letters while Bob was in the army. They were married on January 4, 1952. They raised their family in the "dinkytown" area of Minneapolis and, once the children were in school, Jean was employed by the University of Minnesota, during which time she also took classes to earn a B.A. degree. For the last part of her 25-year working career, she was an On-Site Program Manager for the Carlson School of Management's Executive Development Center, retiring in 1995. Jean loved to travel, including 28 long stays in Hawaii over the winter months. She loved nature and spent many hours watching the assorted birds and wildlife on her back patio. Mostly, she was devoted to her family and to God. Her grandchildren describe her as "loving, peaceful, calm, kind, positive, reliable, and caring about everyone." She had an unwavering faith no matter what the situation, including surviving cancer. Seven years ago she was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis and, with the devoted care of her husband, still had many beautiful years full of travel, friends and family. Her favorite Bible verse was Isaiah 26:3: "Thou will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee." In keeping with Jean's wishes, there will be a private family gathering to celebrate her life, instead of a funeral service. Memorials may be directed to MOCA (Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance) or to the donor's choice.
