Karl Heinz Liebig
"To the Jew first..."
UNCASVILLE - Karl H. "Heiner" Liebig, 72, of Norwich New London Tpke, a well-known business owner and passionate Christian, was called home early Friday morning to be with his Lord.
On August 31, 1940 he was born in Bremerhaven, Germany the son of Adele Gesine (Liebig) Ufen and the late Karl Hermann Liebig.
After serving with the German Merchant Marines he came to the United States having been sponsored to work at the former Butler Chevrolet in Norwich. Since 1974 he has owned and operated Heiner's Auto Body Shop in Uncasville.
Having been born during World War II and after witnessing the devastation of the Holocaust, Mr. Leibig felt a close association and love for the Jewish People. In 1975 he became a member of the Lake Ponds Baptist Church in Waterford and has traveled the world preaching the Gospel. He has traveled on countless mission trips including visits to Russia, Israel and Germany. Just recently Mr. Liebig received a Letter of Gratitude from Israeli Prime Minister's Bureau for his "prayers and kind words of encouragement" for President Netanyahu.
For the past twenty-five years he has a held a weekly Friday night Bible Study inside his home chapel which has become known as The Jewish Hour. His support for President Carter's presidential campaign earned him an invitation to the inauguration in recognition of his hard work campaigning for his election.
He has been the loving husband to Tina (Bollenbach) Liebig for thirty years and will be greatly missed by his children, Michael Liebig of Uncasville, Diana (Liebig) Shelburn & husband Mickey of Waterford, Heidi (Liebig) Foxx & husband Larry of Pennsylvania, Erik Ryan & wife Khristy of Florida, James Liebig & wife Candace of Florida, Kristina (Bollenbach) Slager & husband Andy of Waterford, Paul Liebig of Uncasville, Rachel Liebig of Norwich, Philip and Caylee (Pennell) Liebig of Norwich, Sara-Joy Liebig of New Haven, Charity Liebig of Uncasville, Julia-Hope Liebig of Uncasville, Timothy Liebig of Uncasville, and Moriah Liebig of Uncasville; 19 Grandchildren, Ashley, Joshua, Jessica, Amanda, Mickayla, Julianna, Annalise, Emmalyn, Israel, Nicholas, Aliya, Cayla, and Jada, Marina, Mariah, Colton, Conrad and Madelyn; 6 Great-Grandchildren, Talon, Natalia, Josh Jr., Lukas, Jaden and Cienna; brother, Johann Liebig; sister, Gerda (Liebig) Sadowski; 5 nieces and 2 nephews.
His funeral service will we held on Tuesday, July 9, at 1:00 p.m. at the Lake Ponds Baptist Church, 1144 Hartford Road, Waterford. Burial will follow in Comstock Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
