Chestley D. Gibson Chestley D. Gibson of Boonesville, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, August 29, 2013. Born in Boonesville, on December 15, 1924, he was the son of the late Henry T. Gibson and Florence Via Gibson. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Mildred Kathleen Shiflett Gibson who passed away on Wednesday July 31, 2013; three brothers, Junior Bee, Merrill and Jimmy; and a grandson, Brian Tate. He is survived by his four children, Linda Brubeck and her husband, Ray, Martha Tate and her husband, Monte, Eddie Gibson and his wife, Doris, and Lisa Gibson. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jacob, Aaron, John, Travis, Eric, Monte Jr., Rodney, Wesley, Brandon, and their families; 13 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Opal Rouse of North Carolina, Marlene Walton of Boonesville, Victoria Jones of Dinwiddie, and Thelma Smith of Birmingham, Alabama. Chestley proudly served during World War II in the United States Army Company C 252nd Engineer Combat Battalion. Returning home he worked the area orchards, at Bethlehem Steel in Maryland, for Rockingham Electric helping to bring electric power to the mountainous area of both sides of the Blue Ridge Mountains. He later retired from ACME Visible Records in Crozet. Being a devoted husband, father and grandfather he always enjoyed his family, his cattle, gardening and blue grass music. The family wishes to thank Dr. Bruce Campbell, Dr. Christopher Friend, Dr. Cynthia Spaulding - MJH Radiation Oncology, Dr. James Boyer, The Hope Center and Sentara Home Health for all their support and assistance. Also very special thanks to Wesley Gibson, Aaron and Sheena Brubeck, Opal Shifflett, and Doris Gibson for their help during this difficult time. "We couldn't have done it without you!" We appreciate the faithful visits of Donna Lydon , minister of Good Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church and the Reverend Alva Hurley. A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, September 2, 2013, at Prize Hill Church. Interment will follow at Prize Hill Cemetery.
