Eugene Bradt Obituary

Bradt, Eugene Paul 76, of Red Wing and formerly of Roseville, entered into eternal peace on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born on June 7th 1937, in Hastings to Robert and Lucille (Niederkorn) Bradt, later moving to Duluth where he graduated from Denfeld High School in 1955. On January 25, 1958 he married Darlene Hansen, who preceded him in death in 2001. After completing his undergraduate work at Marquette University and the University of Minnesota, Gene graduated with a J.D. degree from William Mitchell College of Law in 1963. For the next 42 years, until 2005, he practiced with the firm of Hansen, Dordell, Bradt, Odlaug, and Bradt. He continued to work as a pioneer in the field of mediating and arbitrating Alternative Dispute Resolutions until his diagnosis of a brain tumor in February 2013. Gene received numerous professional honors. He was elected as a Fellow by the American Bar Association in 1995, listed in the National Publication Best Lawyers in America, and was a Perennial Super Lawyer in Law and Politics. On October 25, 2003 he married Dona Macaulay of Red Wing. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; sister, Betty Welshons, and brother, Arnie Bradt. He is survived by his wife, Dona Macaulay- Bradt; three children, Kellie Bradt, Kevin (Marsha) Bradt and Eric (Kathleen) Bradt; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five stepchildren, Robert (Karen) Macaulay, Cathy (Michael) Burlager, Jim (Susan) Macaulay, George (Cheryl) Macaulay and Carolyn (Michael) Liebe; 15 step- grandchildren; two brothers, Guy (Darlene) Bradt and William (Darlene) Bradt; two sisters, Audrey (Ken) Kochendorfer and Mary (Al) Kieffer. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2013 at United Lutheran Church, 628 West 5th St., Red Wing with visitation beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the church.
