William Melvin Marsh
William Melvin Marsh, 94, of Madison, passed away at his home on March 15, 2014.
A graveside service will be held at Roselawn Cemetery in Decatur on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at 2 p.m. Joseph S. Marsh IV will be officiating. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home.
He was born October 6, 1919, in Decatur. Melvin graduated from Tanner High School in 1940. He was a member of their first football team and the Beta Club. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II.
Melvin was a part-time farmer, but also worked for Monsanto Co. for many years and retired from there in 1984.
He is survived by five daughters and a son, Ann (Billy) Swanner, Tanner; Brenda (Don) Stevenson, Birmingham; Bonnie Thomas, Trinity; Billie (Jim) Griffis, Madison; Melba (Byron) Carrell, Madison; and William M. (Jackie) Marsh Jr., Harvest; and four brothers, Joe Marsh, Burton Marsh, Rex (Evelyn) Marsh and Gordon (Louise) Marsh. He had 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lucile, and daughter, Mary Elizabeth; his parents, Joseph S. and Connie Exula Marsh; brother, Raymond Marsh; and sisters, Thelma Swanner and Betty Ann Lauderdale.
Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Swanner, Don Stevenson, Jim Griffis, Byron Carrell, Joe Marsh III, Allan Marsh, Parrish Dial and John David White.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Hospice of the Valley. The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Valley for the wonderful service they provided.
