On April 21, 2006, after a brief illness, Allie Leona Wilson Nerhood went to be with our Lord and her beloved husband Harry.
She was born on December 3, 1912, in Townwood, Ohio, the fourth child of Sarah Aerni and William Willard Wilson. She attended Findlay College briefly before meeting and marrying Harry Warren Nerhood. They remained in Ohio while he completed a doctorate in Russian history and economics at Ohio State University. He subsequently accepted a faculty position at Whittier College in Whittier, California where they remained for the ensuing fifty years. While in California she completed her education with a masters degree in library science. Though they had no children of their own, they were the adored Awnie and Beaupere of any small child they encountered. They were lifetime members of The First Friends church of Whittier.
She is survived by five nieces: Lynda Nerhood Levine of Baltimore, MD., Rebecca Nerhood Speaks of La Jolla, CA., Johanna Nerhood Edwards of Rockford IL., Emma Wilson Dinkins of Indianapolis, IN., Martha Wilson Brooks of Hockessin, DE. and one nephew, Robert Clarke Nerhood of Huntington WV.
Following the death of her husband, she came to West Virginia to reside at the Inn at Wyngate where she quickly won the hearts of all by virtue of her easy grace, ready wit and effortless smile. We shall all miss her.
