Matthew William Houlihan, beloved son of William F. and Elizabeth D. (Hunt) Houlihan, was born in Salem, Massachusetts, on November 5, 1980. He lived in Andover, Massachusetts; Ridgefield, Connecticut; and New York City, before moving to Falmouth, Massachusetts, in 1997.
He attended school in Andover and the Browning School in New York City, and graduated from Tabor Academy in Marion, Massachusetts, in 1999. While at Tabor Academy, he lettered in football, crew and wrestling, and won the Tabor Coaches Award for football.
Matthew was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Woods Hole.
Matthew was a sophomore at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York. He was a member of the crew team, the Chi Psi fraternity and was an avid painter. He had won a scholarship from the St. Joseph's Church Scholarship Fund to attend college.
Matthew, 19, died unexpectedly at Hamilton College on Tuesday, October 3, 2000.
He leaves many loved and dear friends with many wonderful memories.
Survivors include his beloved parents; 3 devoted brothers, Daniel P. Houlihan, and Sean C. Houlihan, both of Boston, and Michael P. Houlihan of Denver, Colorado; his maternal grandmother, Dorothy M. (Hackett) Hunt of South Dartmouth, Massachusetts; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was the grandson of the late Harry Carter Hunt and William and Sarah (O'Reilly) Houlihan.
