Lee, NH- Robert L. Blickle, 89, of Littlehook Rd died Monday December 30, 2002 from complications of multiple sclerosis.
Robert was a professor emeritus at the University of NH. He was born and raised in Ironton, Ohio, on Nov. 12, 1913. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1937. He continued his graduate work at Louisiana State University and the University of NH, completing his Ph. D. at Ohio State in 1942. He served with the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, he taught entomology at the University of New Hampshire until his retirement in 1979. In addition to his teaching, he was active in entomological research, making contributions in the areas of caddis flies and horseflies.
An avid lifelong sportsman, Robert lettered in track at Ohio State, competing on the same track team as Jesse Owens. An excellent golfer, he was also a member of the UNH faculty bowling league and served as an advisor to the UNH Yacht Club
Dr. Blickle is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margaret Olson Blickle; a daughter Katrina Pellecchia of Fort Worth, TX; a grandson, Adam Pellecchia of New York, NY and his twin sister, Jean B. Winters of Key Largo, FL.
