Lulu Margaret (Maggy) Asmus, 86, of Canon City, Colorado and formerly of
Sturgis, MI, passed away March 8, 2003 at the home of her daughter,
Margie Meconi in Canon City, CO.
She was born in Monmouth, IN. on July 14, 1916, a daughter of Wellington
and LuLu (Smith) Bradley. Margaret was the first woman hired at
Chrysler Tank as an inspector during WWII. She also worked for a short
time at the Tie factory in LaGrange, IN and then worked for the Kirsch
Co. for thirty years, retiring in 1979. She resided in Sturgis for over
40 years and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. In 1980 she moved
to Canon City, CO where she enjoyed gardening, growing roses, many
different crafts and spending time with her family.
Surviving are three sons: Lester (Bud) W. Hathaway of Colorado
Springs, CO., Delbert Lee Hathaway of Sandpoint, Idaho, Ronald S.
Hathaway of Idaho Springs, CO. One daughter: Margie Meconi of Canon
City, CO., Seventeen grandchildren, many great-granchildren, two
sisters: Ramah Krontz of Burr Oak, MI. and Betty Fry of Constantine, MI.
Three Brothers: Thomas Bradley of Sturgis, Paul Bradley of Sturgis, and
Theodore Bradley of Reno, NV, and many nieces and nephews. She is
preceeded in death by her husbands: Lester Hathaway, Carl Grabe, and
Harold Asmus, one son: Melvin D. Hathaway, one sister Dorothy Billman,
and one brother R. James Bradley.
Friends and relatives may call at the Rosenberg-Schipper Funeral Home,
Ltd. of Sturgis on Wednesday from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 PM. Religious
services will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 2:00 PM with
the Rev. Chris Knight, Sturgis Missionary Church, officiating.
Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be directed
to Hospice or a charity of one's choice.
