Daniel Oscar Smith of Dothan went to be with his Lord June 14, 2007, as the result of injuries sustained in an airplane accident. He was 62.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. John D. Reese officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Byrd Funeral Home today from 6 to 8 p.m.
Mr. Smith was born Oct. 21, 1944, in Dothan to the late J. O. Smith and Ruth Hinson Smith. He was raised in Dothan and graduated from Dothan High School. He also graduated from Auburn University with a Master's degree. He was an instructor at Enterprise-Ozark Community College and Troy State University from 1968 until 1975. He returned to Dothan to the family business, Dothan Motor Company, in 1976. He was co-owner of Dothan Motor Company until his death. Mr. Smith was an active member at New Covenant Christian Fellowship where he served as worship leader.
His father, and his son, Timothy Eugene Smith, preceded Mr. Smith in death.
Survivors include his wife, Victoria "Vickey" Ann Newton Smith; son,Christopher Todd Smith and his wife Lori Hoskins Smith, their children, Victoria Grace Smith, Clarissa Hope Smith, Elliot Alexander Smith and Harrison Rush Smith, all of Dothan; son, Troy Daniel Smith and his wife Barbara Edwards Smith, their children Ansley Nicole Smith, Colin Daniel Smith, Sydney Ruth Smith, and Kylee Ann Smith, all of Dothan; mother, Amanda Ruth Hinson Smith, of Dothan; brother, James "Jim" Benny Smith and his wife Nancy Tindol Smith of Dothan; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Larry Adams, John Godwin, Bruce Keel, Robert Knop, Charlie Moulthrop and Paul Thomley.
Honorary pallbearers are all the brothers in Christ at New Covenant Christian Fellowship.
