WEST COLUMBIA%%Services for Eldred V. Ackerman, 77, of West Columbia, will be held at 11am Thursday, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, conducted by Rev. John Hamilton. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice Care of Tri-County, TLC Program or Congaree Pharmacy. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Ackerman died Sunday, May 16, 2004. Born in Jacksreef, NY, he was the son of the late Floyd and Lillian Abbott Ackerman. He was a member of VFW Post #8738, WWII Navy veteran meteorologist on escort carrier, U.S.S. ATTU and also a member of NRA. Mr. Ackerman enjoyed playing the guitar, occasional pipe and a good cigar.
Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Susan Ackerman of West Columbia; daughters, Rebecca Ruff of Carthage, NY, Greta Roberts of West Columbia, Laura Willett, Jean Kelly, Diane Hare all of Syracuse, NY; sons, Val Scott Ackerman of Syracuse, NY, Charles Ackerman of Indiana, Howard Haskins of Reno, NV and Gerald Ackerman of Syracuse, NY; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
