Eugene Barry Obituary

1920 - 2008
Somersworth - Eugene Francis Barry, 86, of 3 James Street, died Thursday February 14, 2008 at the Hyder Family House Hospice Center, Dover after a period of declining health.

Eugene was born on February 25, 1920 in Lynn MA and was the son of John Patrick and Mary (Morrow) Barry. He was raised in Lynn and was educated in that community where he graduated from Lynn Classical High School Class of 1938. He went on to the Lowell Institute of Technology, receiving a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Mr. Barry entered the General Electric Apprentice Program and was employed with General Electric for 43 years. He was one of the first four project managers to come to Somersworth to start the General Electric Operation. He retired in 1982 after serving as Manager of Manufacturing Engineering, a post held for 27 years.

Eugene was active in his church and community where he served as a member of The Holy Trinity School Board. He served on the Somersworth Planning Board and was a former member of the Somersworth Housing Authority. He was a life long supporter of the University of Notre Dame.

Family members include his wife Marie (Cashman) Barry of Somersworth, his children, Kevin Barry and his wife Susan of Somersworth, Sharon Barry, Suzanne (Evvard) Barry both of Rochester, Brian Barry of Dover and Terrence Barry of Somersworth.

Eugene also leaves his grandchildren, Kristen Barry of Los Angeles, CA, Jason Barry of Warwick, RI and Caitlin Evvard of Rochester. Several nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by his sister, Claire Farrah, a brother Raymond Barry and by his grandson, Richard Evvard.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00AM in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with Rev. Aaron Pfaff, Pastor as celebrant. Burial will be in the spring in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
