Evelyn Damour Bracy, 78, of Henniker, died at her home, March 20, 2008.
She was born December 13, 1929 in Henniker to Joseph and Exilda (Duperron) Damour. She attended local schools and graduated from Henniker High School, Class of 1947.
She was a lifelong resident of Henniker.
Mrs. Bracy worked for First National Stores for 20 years. When First National closed their Henniker store, Evie and her husband, Stanley J. Bracy, owned and operated that store as Stan’s Superette. After Stan’s death, in 1974, she worked for a while for FACIT in Concord and then at Yankee Book in Contoocook for the past 17years. She retired from there in 2006.
She was a lifelong communicant of St. Theresa Church where she was active as a Eucharistic minister and in any other way she could help. Evie was an outgoing person and was always there to help others whether it was to take a friend or neighbor to a doctor’s appointment or to make whoopee pies or cookies for a bereavement lunch, or the kids in the neighborhood, to just being there for support. Her favorite saying was “you only go this way once”. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her.
Members of her family include a son and his wife, Steven J. Bracy and Leslie (Thomas)of Concord, a daughter, Geri A. McGinley and her husband Mark of Bentonville, Virginia, 2 grandsons, Emerson and Avery Bracy of Concord, a sister, Irene L. Fisher of Micco, Florida and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a sister, Theresa M. Young, of Manchester, in January 2008. She was also predeceased by seven brothers, J. Edward, Paul, Maurice, Donat, Charles, Louis and Raymond Damour, and sisters, Alice Fisher, Lillie Gaucher and Rita Jache.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2008, from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Durning, Bykowski & Young Funeral Home, 285 Manchester St., corner of Beech St., Manchester.
The funeral liturgy will be celebrated Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Theresa Church, 158 Old Hopkinton Rd, Henniker. Everyone is asked to please meet at the church.
Burial will be in the spring in New Cemetery, Henniker.
