Somersworth- Gemma F. Bisson, 77, formerly of High Street died Feb. 25, 2004 at Riverside Rest Home, Dover, where she had resided for the past 7 years.
Born in South Berwick, Me. on Sept. 20, 1926 she was the daughter of Hector & Aurelie (Pelletier) Desjardins. She had lived most of her life in Somersworth and was the widow of former city councilman Jules Bisson who died in 1987.
She was an active member of the DAV Auxiliary. She served as a past commander of Chapter 15 in Somersworth, was a past State Commander, and was recently active in the Dover Chapter.
Gemma was a communicant of St. Martins Church and was a former member of the Parish Council.
She was also active in local politics and was a former Somersworth Lioness.
The nursing staff at Riverside was very good to her and she loved them all.
She was predeceased by her brothers Gerard, Hector and Mark Desjardins and her sister Laurence Beauchesne.
Survivors include 2 sons, Henri Bisson of Anchorage, Alaska and Ronald Bisson of Contoocook, NH; 1 daughter Elaine Jones of Grand Island, Fl.; 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; 1 sister Martha April of Citrus Hills, Fl.; several cousins, many nieces & nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Bernier Funeral Home, 49 South Street, Somersworth.
A Con-celebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. from St. Martins Church, Somersworth, with Rev. Aaron Pfaff and Rev. Roger Bisson as celebrants. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
