Genevieve Robbins Obituary

TRAVERSE CITY - Genevieve Anne "Jenny" Robbins, 79, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully in her sleep Monday, Dec. 12, 2005, at Grand Traverse Pavilions, after a lengthy illness.

Genevieve Anne Thorne was born March 10, 1926, in Detroit, the daughter of Roy and Anna (Carr) Thorne. She married Frank H. Robbins on May 30, 1945, in Flint. He predeceased her in 1986.

Genevieve worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Company for 35 years, retiring in 1982.

Jenny sang in the Flint Council Choir and was an active member of the Telephone Pioneers of America during her early retirement years.

She was a previous member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, where she played the organ. She later became a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church of Flint until moving to Traverse City in 1989, where she joined First Congregational Church of Traverse City.

Jenny loved spending time with her family, enjoyed gardening, rock hunting and collecting, singing, playing the piano and pottery.

Surviving are one son and three daughters, Bryan (Carrie) Robbins of Frankenmuth, Joan Robbins of Traverse City, Nancy (Scott) Powrie of Flushing and Carol (Laren) Thorson of Kingsley; grandchildren, Jenifer and Daniel Robbins of Frankenmuth, Nathanael Powrie of Flushing, Andrew (Natsuko) Thorson of Bainbridge Island, Wash., Erick (Kristen) Thorson of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, and Roy (Hatsumi) Thorson of Poulsbo, Wash.; great-grandchildren, Charles, Anna Ai, Ayaka, Anna Marie and Hana Thorson; cousin, Marvel LaHaie of Alpena and Earl Thorne of Naubinway; and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Kenneth Thorne; sister, Ann Eller; and brother, Anthony Arion.

Jenny's family will receive visitors Thursday, Dec. 15, from 2 to 8 p.m., at the Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St., Frankenmuth. Funeral services will take place Friday, Dec. 16, at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home, where an additional visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Mark D. Brandt will officiate with Committal services to take place at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Flint at 12:30 p.m. Friday.
