Gerald Appleby Obituary

1949 - 2005
Rollinsford - Gerald E. Appleby, 55, of 53 ˝ South Street, died Saturday July 16, 2005 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, Dover after a courageous battle with cancer.

Gerald was born in Rochester on November 23, 1949 and was the son of Donald and Rita (Britney) Appleby. He was raised in the Berwick, Maine area and was a graduate of Berwick High School Class of 1968.

Jerry was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the US Navy and assigned to the Medical Team Security. Upon his return he attended Franklin Pierce College and did further study at the School of Life Long Learning.

From 1992 to 2002, Gerald had been employed fulltime with So. Berwick Rescue and retired as EMS Coordinator. Jerry received his EMT training at the University of New Hampshire and Portsmouth Regional Hospital. For the past 3 years, He had been employed with Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Transportation.

Gerald had also been employed for a time at General Electric in Somersworth. and with Chaulk/AMR Ambulance Service.

Active in veterans affairs Gerald was a life member of the VFW Post 5744 of So. Berwick and was a former Senior Vice Commander of the Post. He was also an active member of the National Association of Approved Basketball Officials.

Gerald enjoyed nature and wildlife photography, hiking and skiing. But his favorite love was his Triumph Motorcycle, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Family members include a son Joshua Appleby of Somersworth, two sisters, Judith LaCroix of Rochester and Barbara Gagnon of Berwick. Several nephews and nieces.

Calling hours at Bernier Funeral Home 49 South Street, Somersworth, NH will be on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. Funeral services for Gerald will be held on Wednesday in the Bernier Funeral Home 49 South Street, Somersworth at 11:00AM with Rev James Christianson, a close friend of the family, presiding. Burial will be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery, Berwick, Maine
