Gertrude Barnhill Obituary

1916 - 2007
Gertrude Ellen Gordon Wolfe Donaldson Barnhill, 90, of Tempe, Arizona, passed away on March 21, 2007.
Born in North Georgetown, Ohio on July 14, 1916, she was the 5th of 6 children of Elmer and Sarah (Niederheiser) Gordon; adopted by Ernest & Marie Wolfe at age 5. She spent her teenage years in Canton with Merlin and Sarah Schneider and their children, Richard, Donald, and Marla, and was a graduate of McKinley HS.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Ray, Ralph, and Carl Gordon; sisters Edna and Norma (Gordon) Niuman; brother Dean Wolfe and sister Jeanette (Wolfe) McCoy; her first husband, Richard Donaldson, of New Franklin, Ohio; and second husband Charles Barnhill of Canton, Ohio.
“Trudy” was an excellent seamstress; Organist/Choir Dir. of St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Franklin and head cook at New Franklin Elem. Sch.; LPN graduate the Timken Mercy School of Nursing; and a founding member of the Oschogi Club.
Her retirement years were spent in Myrtle Beach, SC and Tempe, AZ where she was an active community volunteer and sang in church choirs.
She is survived by 2 daughters: Ellen (Glenn) Brown of Tempe, Arizona and Kathleen (Arthur) Horstman of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Laura (Ron) Graybill, Amy Horstman, Aaron (Bonnie) Brown, and Matthew Brown; and great-grandchildren Kelsey and Cody; and other beloved family members.
A memorial service was held Mon., Mar 26, 2007 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Tempe, Arizona. Visitation in Ohio will be held Sunday, April 1st from 6-8 PM at Bartley Funeral Home in Minerva.
Funeral services will be Mon. Apr. 2nd at 11 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Franklin, with burial in New Franklin Cemetery; luncheon following at the church. In lieu of flowers please donate to the charity of your choice in her honor.
She was a blessing and inspiration to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
