Hilda Albee Obituary

1907 - 2005
Hilda E. Albee, 98,of Newport died September 26.

Mrs. Albee was born in Hyde Park on September 23,1907,a daughter of James and Carrie Montgomery.

She was a 1927 graduate of People’s Academy in Morrisville. She moved to North Troy in the fall of that year (one month before the Big Flood) and was employed as secretary at the Blair Veneer Co. and later at the Valley Savings Bank.

In 1930 she married Stanley B. Albee. They had one son, Terrill and a daughter, Leslie who died at birth. Mr. Albee was a co-owner of the Orleans Candy Co.

In 1939 she and Mr. Albee moved to Newport where she held employment at Lawson’s Ford Co., Natole Motor Co., the American Maple Products Co. and later at the American Red Cross office. She was a member of the United Church, a member and Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, which she joined during World War 1.

She is survived by her grandsons Aaron and Michael Albee, 3 nieces, Ester Earle of Vernon, Vt., Linda Benn of Ontario, Canada and Patricia Lauzon of Cazenovia, NY, 6 nephews Weldon Montgomery of Boulder, Michigan , Dale Montgomery of Colchester, VT, Durwood Montgomery of Belmont, VT, Donald Montgomery of Westerly, RI ,

Bruce Jones of Harker Heights, TX, and Gregory Magoon of Laconia,NH, a sister-in-law Helen Montgomery of Richford, a brother-in-law Alton Magoon of Newport and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Also by a special friend Shirley Turner of Newport.

Besides her husband and children, she was predeceased by two sisters, Henrietta Clapper and Bertha Magoon and four brothers, Wallace, Daniel, Valley and Randall Montgomery.

Mrs. Albee was “second mother” to her sister Bertha’s children Bruce, Linda and Patty Jones and Gregg Magoon and was dearly loved by all her family and friends. She was a caring and giving person. She will be grievously missed

Friends may call at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Memorial Chapel, 37 Lake Road, Newport (formerly Bay St.) on Friday, September 30 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., where funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 1 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fred Barker officiating. Parking and easy ramped entrance in rear of funeral home. Interment will follow at the Pine Grove cemetery in Newport.
