COLUMBIA%%Services for Hildred “Heavy” Quitman Altman, 81, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2007 at Red Bank United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Thomas Wilkes, with interment to follow in Red Bank United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Mr. Altman, beloved husband of Jeanette Taylor Altman, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2007. Born in New Brookland, SC, he was the son of the late Gillie Altman and Fletcher Julia Russell. He lived most of his life in Lexington County and was a member of Red Bank United Methodist Church. He courageously served our country in the US Navy aboard the USS Flagship New Jersey in the Pacific. Mr. Altman was self-employed as a Real Estate Developer and Contractor, and loved traveling, cooking and trying new recipes. He was also a Free Mason, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, a Woodman of the World, and a Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 308. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Surviving him are his wife of 57 years, Jeanette Taylor, of Columbia; his sons and daughter-in-law, Wendell and Millie Altman of Atlanta, GA, and Tim Altman of Lexington, SC; and his grandchildren, Hayley and Zan Altman.
