J. Herbert Fowler MULLINS, S.C. - Mr. J. Herbert Fowler, 84, widower of Myrna Graham Fowler, died Thursday, September 19, 2013 at his home after an illness. Mr. Fowler was born March 31, 1929 in Marion County, a son of the late Roland Monroe Fowler, Sr. and the late Mattie Gordon Fowler. He was a former farmer and general contractor. Mr. Fowler, along with his brother, R.M. Fowler, Jr., ran Fowler Brothers Construction Company for many years. Mr. Fowler was a very active, devoted and lifelong member of Mullins First Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon and taught the Fellowship Sunday School Class, the Ready Sunday School Class and the Men's Bible Class. For over 50 years, he led his Sunday School classes in preparing "Jesus' Birthday Party," for all of the adult members of the church. Mr. Fowler and his beloved wife, Myrna, founded the Joy Bible Study in 1995, which he led until his health declined. He enjoyed participating in the Young At Heart choir. In his later years, Mr. Fowler's focus was on family, friends and church. Each Friday, he enjoyed fishing and fellowship with his friends at The Pond. Surviving Mr. Fowler are: 2 Daughters: Melinda (Lee) Kirby of Monks Corner and Sheila (Alan) Sparks of Mt. Pleasant; 2 Grandchildren: Joshua Sparks and Kyle Sparks; 3 Step-Grandchild-ren: Martin Kirby, Richard Kirby and Mary Beth Kirby; a Sister: Eunice Fowler Graham of Taylors; a Brother-in-Law: Ernest Graham, Jr. of Marion; and beloved uncle to Robert Fowler, Karen Ballenger, Dale Fowler, Jeanne Stiglebaur, Susan McClure, Becky Graham, Alison Graham and David Graham. Mr. Fowler was pre-deceased by 3 brothers: R. M. Fowler, Jr., Gordon Fowler, and Clyde Fowler; and 3 sisters: Julia "Tynee" Fowler, Victorine Fowler and Mattie Lee Fowler. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Sat-urday, September 21, at Mullins First Baptist Church, with Rev. Kenneth Sandifer, Rev. Jim Kirkland, and Mr. Douglas Hooks officiating. Burial will follow in Cedardale Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
