John Duffie Gaskins, Sr. Mr. Duffie Gaskins, age 63, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, June 29, 2013, surrounded by his loving wife, family, and friends. Born October 28, 1949, in Florence, Duffie was the son of the late L. J. and Thelma Goodson Gaskins. He attended Lake City schools and was a retired machine operator with Superior Machine Company for 25 years. Duffie was a member of New Prospect Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school superintendent. He enjoyed cooking for church activities and doing anything else that needed to be done. He also enjoyed camping and fishing. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Brenda Hicks Gaskins; children, John D. "John Boy" Gaskins, Jr. (Tamri), Randall L. Gaskins (Lisa), and Joey A. Gaskins (Brandie); 8 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; many nieces and nephews; and his best friends, Wallace and Wanda Stone. Duffie was predeceased by his brothers, Jackie Gaskins and James Gaskins, and his sister, Sarah Gaskins. Funeral services, conducted by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, will be held at 2:00PM Monday, July 1, 2013, at New Prospect Free Will Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Sunday, June 30, 2013. The family would like to thank Duffie's caretakers, Shelly Graham, Wendy Woodberry, and Teresa Pressley for their tender and compassionate care and Drs. Richard Ellis and Howard Farrell.
