Jack Adams Obituary

DANVILLE - Jack H. Adams, of Danville, passed away at home on Sept. 15, after a two-year illness. His wife, Donna Helms Adams, passed away in March of 1997. They were married 47 years.
He began his career with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Akron, Ohio in 1944 and retired in 1987 after 43 years of service. In 1968, Goodyear decided to move the manufacturing of truck and aircraft tires to Danville. Mr. Adams was selected to transfer to Danville as a Q.C. leader. Shortly after transferring to Danville, he received the prestigious award for the Best Contribution to Profit Improvement, as well as various other awards. He was later promoted to Q.C. group leader and retired contract coordinator in 1987 for military aircraft tires, working with both the FAA and military inspectors. He was a member of the Joppa Lodge 517 F & AM and was honored to receive a pen and certificate for his 50th year as a member in 2005. He was also a World War II veteran, serving 14 months in Korea, in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by a sister, Evelyn VanHook of Akron, Ohio; three daughters, Starlene Tomer, Darlene Mort, and Tammy Adams, all of Danville; one son, Jack H. Adams II, of Roxboro, N.C.; and eight grandchildren, including Heather, who was to him like the fifth child and best friend. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Sacred Heart School, 540 Central Blvd., Danville, VA 24540; the school was very important in his life.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Townes Funeral Home Chapel with Father Charles Breindel officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park with military honors to be given by American Legion Dan River Post 1097.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 17, at Townes Funeral Home; at other times they will be at the residence, 224 Oakwood Circle.
Townes Funeral Home, 215 West Main St., is in charge of arrangements for the Adams family.
