James L. Adams
April 18, 1946 – December 20, 2008
James (Didi) Adams of Welcome, MD departed this life suddenly on December 20, 2008 at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. James held a special place in our hearts and he will be greatly missed by us all.
James was preceded in death by his mother Mary Cecelia Adams, his father Joseph S. Adams and his brother Thomas (Moody) Adams.
Loving memories of James will remain in the hearts of his family: five brothers; Joseph L. (Buck) Adams, William A. (Mitchie) Adams, John E. (Johnny) Adams, and Francis E (Roy) Adams; five sisters; Gladys C. Adams, Mary Helena (Beanie) Adams, Mary J. (Jane) Adams, Alice A. Brawner, and Ruth C. Greene.
He was of Catholic faith and a firm believer in God and family.
James was a lifelong resident of Charles County. He was educated in the Charles County Public School System and attended Pomonkey High School.
He was happily married to Dianne Adams for 40 years. They have a son Darryl S. Adams, a daughter-in-law Carla Adams, a daughter Myra J. Gray, and special nephew Stephen Gray.
He was the proud grandpa of Desmond, Donovan and Shareese Adams as well as Gregory, Zachary, Avery Avonne, Andre and Destiny Lancaster. He was the great-grandfather of Iiana, Teyana and Johnathan.
He retired from the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission after 30 years of dedicated service where he received recognition for numerous awards. James was most recently employed by BJ’s transportation as the driver of bus 342.
James enjoyed going to the race track, camping in his motor home and he had a great passion for various automobiles. His hobbies were cooking, gardening and taking care of his vehicles. He was a member of the US Club and National Association of African American RV Association (NAARVA).
James will be dearly missed by a host of close relatives, friends, and associates.
His viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 24th, 9:00am until time of service 11:00am at Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, MD 20640. Interment St. Charles Cemetery, Glymont, MD.
