James Raymond Adams, age 89, of Kirby, died Thursday, August 16, 2007.
He was born on May 12, 1918, in Amity, the son of Hob Adams and Lucinda Hurt Adams. He was married to Irma Ozell White on October 21, 1937. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Bobby Adams and Billy Adams; one sister, Pearl Page and one brother, Herman Adams.
He was retired from Southern Gulf Trucking Company and served in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Glenwood.
He is survived by his wife, Irma Ozell Adams of Kirby, two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Laura Adams of Marion and Jerry and Beth Adams of McKinney, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Max Smith of Kirby and Cathy and Raymond Whitehead of Kirby; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; three brothers, Fletcher Adams of Amity, Sam Adams of Glenwood and Franklin Adams of Sulphur Springs, Texas; two sisters, Betty McNeal of Amity and Verna Sue Anderson of Kirby; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 18, 2007 at the First Baptist Church, Glenwood with Bro. Keith Howell and Bro. Kevin Smead officiating.
Visitation will be held Friday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
Interment will be in the Ebeneezer Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.
Pallbearers will be Jack Tackett, Derwood Mayo, Larry Mitchell, Sonny Troutman, Tom Burns and Bill Whitehead.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jeffrey Bearden, Darcy Garner, Amy Cogburn, Rebecca Thompson, V. Anderson and Bro. Jim Freeman.
