Jessie Lou Nickoles Austin, 82 of Columbus, MS passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at her residence.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 24, 2008 from 6:00 until 9:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Services will be Friday, April 25, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Bro. Steve Lammons officiating, Bro. Gene Gillis and Bro. Ralph Windle assisting. Mrs. Austin will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing.
Mrs. Austin was born in Pickens County, AL on March 26, 1926 to the late Charlie L. and Julie B. Junkin Flurry Nickoles and was a resident of Columbus, MS for the past 71 years having moved from Pickens County, AL. She was retired from Seminole Manufacturing as a seamstress after 32 years of service, a member of the Ladies II Sunday School Class of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Columbus, MS and Rural Hill Community Center Club. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Austin is preceded in death by her husband, Vannoy Alphfus Austin, Jr., brother, James Nickoles and sister-Gladys Clark.
Mrs. Austin is survived by her sons - Jimmy (Peggy) Austin and Larry (Angie) Austin both of Columbus, MS; sisters - Edna Jordan, Ann (Dan) Harris and Lorene Cowart all of Columbus, MS; grandchildren - Neal (Susan) Austin, Nikki Austin, Chelsea Austin; great grandchildren - Hunter Austin, Chase Austin; In-Laws - Alice Nickoles, Gladys Mann, Everett Austin, Dwayne (Betty) Clark; special friend and caregiver Diane Lindsey.
Pallbearers will be Chase Austin, Hunter Austin, Chuck Bishop, Mark Bishop, Tony Clark, Ricky Cowart, Austin Mann, Terry Nickoles, Jerry Nickoles, Gary Nickoles and Randy Nickoles. Honorary pallbearers will be Jennifer Washington, Jennifer Douglas, ASERA CARE Hospice Staff, Herbert and Maxine Junkin, Walter and Melissa Long, Barney and Karen Conn, Ladies II Sunday School Class, Dean Patrick, Dr. Brad Brown, Sue Patrick, Dot Lockhart, Vergie Gee and Joan Oswalt.
