ACRE, John Lester, Sgt. First Class, U.S. Army (Ret.), 91, of McKenney, Va., passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Helen Michnuk Acre; two daughters, Marlene A. Mikan of Glenshaw, Pa. and Holly Deborah Acre of McKenney; two granddaughters, Susan Egan and Lori Mikan; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Acre was born in Natrona Heights, Pa. to Lester V. and Goldie Clendenien Acre. He was a World War II veteran, having seen action in France and Germany and was awarded and received the Bronze Star. He was also stationed in Okinawa and Germany after the war. A chapel funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, July 10, at the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home, 1826 Cox Road (Bus. Hwy. 460) near Blackstone, with visitation to follow until 3 p.m. Entombment services in Southlawn Cemetery, Petersburg, will be private.
