Somersworth - John Gerard Armstrong, 68 of 65 South Street, died Wednesday
June 14, 2006 at his home after a period of declining health.
John was born in Portsmouth on February 2, 1938 and was the son of John and Mary Elizabeth Armstrong. He was raised in Amesbury, Ma. attending schools in that community and graduating from Amesbury High School. John had been a resident of Somersworth since 1968.
He entered the Navy after High School, served during peacetime and was stationed on the U.S.S. Yosemite.
John was a pipe fitter by trade and had been employed at the Portsmouth
Naval Shipyard with over 34 years of service. He had also worked at the
Navy Yard at Pearl Harbor.
Family members include his daughters; Melissa Blanchard-Armstrong and her husband Dan of New Jerusalem, PA. and Holly Armstrong of Concord, NH. He also leaves a brother Donald Armstrong of Littleton, Ma and his sister, Mary Ellen Fortin of Freedom, NH.
His wife Sandra Krikes predeceased him.
Calling hours at Bernier Funeral home 49 South Street, Somersworth will be on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 AM in St. Martin Catholic Church, W. High and Maple Streets, with Rev. Aaron Pfaff, pastor as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Somersworth.
The family respectfully declines flowers, and request that contributions be made to a Cancer Research Group on ones choice.
