John Raymond Alexander, 66, of Charlotte died on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at White Oak Manor after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born September 15, 1941 in Laird Hill, Texas, John graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where he was a member of the ROTC. John served in the Army and the Army Reserves retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. John served his country in Korea.
After his military service, John was employed by Exxon’s Latin America Division in Miami and traveled to Central and South America. John later worked for Florida Power and Light then for Southeast Bank in Miami. John moved to Charlotte in 1992 with the merger of Southeast Bank and First Union National Bank, now Wachovia Bank. John retired from Wachovia in December 2006 after 29 years of service.
John is survived by his mother, Mrs. Laura Proffitt Alexander Clay of Locust Bayou, AR; a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. Charles Alexander and wife, Pat of Locust Bayou; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Alexander of Camden; a nephew, Eric Alexander and wife, Melissa of Little Rock; two nieces, Kathy Reyna and husband, Arnold of Corpus Christi, TX and Teresa May and husband, Mike of Rayville, LA; five great-nephews; and two great-nieces. John is also survived friends and members of his Wachovia family including Mike and Lynn Watson, Marty Killoran, Davy and MaryLou Robertson, and Kim Raymer all of Charlotte; Robert and Louise Nordman of Pineville, NC; Randy and Letha Lane of Kingsport, NC; Gary Wright of Denver, NC and many Wachovia friends in Charlotte and Jacksonville, FL.
John was preceded in death by his father, Bill Alexander of Hampton; his brother, Bill Alexander of Camden; and his stepfather, G. R. “Jack” Clay of Locust Bayou.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Proctor Funeral Home with burial in Lakeside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.
