Lee Goad (L.G.) Barnes, 82, passed away at the John L. McClellan Veterans Hospital in Little Rock, AR on Wednesday November 1st, 2006. L.G. was born in Camden, AR on April 23, 1924 and was the oldest son of the late Myrtle Goad and Paul David Barnes.
L.G. graduated from Harmony Grove High School in 1942, joined the U.S. Army Air Force at the age of 18 and was assigned to the 8th Air Force serving at military bases in the United States and overseas. He was recalled and served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR with Business Administration degree.
While in college, he met and married the late Alice Seford and they were parents to three children, Paul David, Michael, and Marion. L.G. loved all children and his greatest joy was in teaching them to play sports, swim, fish, hunt, camp, and to appreciate the great outdoors.
L.G. worked at International Paper Co. in Camden for forty years and retired as Supervisor of Finished Products.
In 1974, he married Jane Miller Williams and became father to her two children, Dale Edmond (Eddie) Williams and Martha Dale Williams.
L.G. was a long time member of St. Johns Episcopal Church in Camden and served as the church treasurer for many years.
He was very civic minded and worked on many projects to help his community including the Harmony Grove Water Association where he served as Secretary-Treasurer and was involved in the construction of baseball fields and the swimming pool at Carnes Park. L.G. dearly loved all sports, especially football and his beloved Razorbacks, and was a member of the Big Johnson Hunting Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Gerald David Barnes. He is survived by his wife Jane Miller Barnes and his children, David and wife Janice Barnes of Aurora, CO., Michael and wife MaryLou Barnes of Plano, TX., Marion and husband Don Whitman of Baytown, TX., Dale (Eddie) Williams and his spouse Patricia Plummer of Camden, Martha Dale and husband Michael Colby of Shreveport, LA..
Beloved grandchildren, Jonathan and Ryan Barnes, and special grandchildren that he helped raise, Kimberly Anne Lester of Magnolia, AR., and Larry Edmond Williams of Camden. His great grandchildren are Brandon Bailey of Magnolia, AR and Elizabeth Skye Williams of Camden.
He is also survived by special friends Marie Ford Moore of Camden and Brandon J. Bailey of Magnolia, AR., his beloved cousins, and many cherished friends.
The family would like to extend a special appreciation to Dr. Paulette Mehta at the John L. McClellan Veterans Hospital and to all the care givers at both the Little Rock and N. Little Rock V.A. facilities for their wonderful, expert, and loving care.
Graveside services will be provided by Proctor Funeral Home of Camden at Memorial Park Cemetery in Camden on Friday, November 3, 2006 at 10:00 AM.
Honorary pallbearers are Tarver Germann, Harvey Linebarier, Fred Lee Rogers, Waymond Launius, and Delano Denton.
